Feeling for Corners

Trance.Nu Review

The United Kingdom has established a reputation over the past decades to deliver stunning vocalists and singer/songwriters in all possible genres, and Julie Thompson is no exception. After successful collaborations with Tiësto, Freestylers, James Holden, Freemasons and Andy Duguid, Julie takes a firm next step in her career and delivers her very first artist album “Feeling For Corners”.

Norwich born and bred Julie Thompsonbegan singing, writing songs and playing the piano at age fourteen, rapidly teaching herself the art of singing and songwriting. After meeting London based producerJames Holden, they produced the instant classic ‘Nothing’, released in 2003, on Fatboy Slim’s imprint Loaded / Skint. A year later, Julie had the opportunity to write for British act Freestylers, who enjoyed name and fame with their chart hit ’Push Up’. This collaboration resulted in performing on the biggest festivals such as Glastonbury and V Festival.

Julie’s vocal qualities were rapidly spotted by the reigning # 1 DJ on the planet that year, Tiësto, who approached her to collaborate. The result: the track ‘Do You Feel Me’ which became one of the tracks to reach Tiësto’s highly successful album ‘Elements Of Life’. Julie was asked to join the Elements Of Life world tour to perform her vocal skills live alongside Tiësto, in front of an audience of hundreds of thousands. Whilst on tour, Julie teamed up with Tiësto again to write and record ‘Somewhere Inside’, a track which made it to the final selection of tracks for Tiësto’s In Search Of Sunrise Volume 6 and received a full single release on Black Hole Recordings in February 2008.

The better part of 2008 and the first months in 2009, Julie devoted herself to writing amazing songs for her album “Feeling For Corners”, which would display her qualities not only as a lyricist and a vocalist, but especially as a matured, fully developed artist standing on her own two feet. The entire album is co-produced by the man who already got labeled ‘Producer Of The Year 2008’ by Tiësto, Andy Duguid.

Julie Thompson about ‘Feeling For Corners’:
“I wanted to write an album that was lyrically honest and song based. Each track was written at a piano. I was really pleased that Black Hole Recordings wanted to release it and that Andy Duguid agreed to produce it. The whole album was written at a time when lots of changes were taking place in my life and the album depicts my deepest thoughts and feelings of that specific period.”

Julie Thompson surrounded herself with the best possible team imaginable: one of the most talented producers the scene has ever seen, a worldly acclaimed record label and the back-up of one of the biggest DJ stars on the planet. When combined with Julie’s impeccable voice and writing expertise, the global trance community is definitely in for a treat.

“I chose to call it ‘Feeling For Corners’ as it was a time of letting go and trusting in what will be will be. I believe all we can do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and feeling for the next corner which, when we turn, usually takes our life in a new surprising direction. So as well as the darker moments in the album, there are also many lighter, uplifting ones that hopefully people can relate to.”

My personal favorite track on this CD is "Shine". An incredibly uplifting track with very inspirational lyrics. Another great addition to the EFM library.

Enjoy - Max

Great addition to the library!!

The Genre says Chillout and Downtempo but I think its more House and Electronic. There are some really good grooves on this CD that will get your foot tapping.

Ecstasy (Michael Mind Remix) and Clocks (Club Mix) are two really hip tracks. Excellent beats to keep you moving!

Enjoy - Max

Tiff Lacey - Show Me The Way (Remix)
Sultry Smooth Vocals
By: Max
Date: 9 Apr 2010
Rating:

The second release on Time Circle Recordings is a long-awaited single of one of the top-flight British vocalists — Tiff Lacey.

With just a piano accompaniment, the Acoustic mix offers the listener a rare treat, showcasing the sensuality of Tiff’s voice paired with her tremendous vocal execution. With its hypnotising vocals, haunting piano melodies and chilled-out mood, this mix will entice and draw you in.

Leaving behind any traces of simplicity and melancholy found in the Acoustic mix, American producer Gabriel Lucosz offers a perfect contrast in his bright and dynamic remix. This track abounds with synth pieces, and guitar riffs, but Lucosz has also seamlessly woven vocal chops and effects into the mix, with the end result being a colourful slice of progressive trance.

Well-known prog house producer Ivan Spell (Jee Productions) rounds up the pack with his remix and dub version as a bonus. Both mixes showcase all that is popular in progressive house today, infectious percussion and a deep atmospheric build up. Prog lovers will be delighted, for this remix really does it’s business.

Enjoy - Max
