Njal Frode Lie - Nordic Chillout Album, The
Music by a technician?
By: Leon
Date: 4 Dec 2011
Rating:

Njal Frode Lie presents himself as a Producer and Technician rather than a musician or dj, yet this album reveals much more about him. He shows a grasp of musical styles far beyond that of a technician.

Unlike many chillout albums by one artist that tend to have a consistent style or theme throughout that relegates them to being suitable for background listening only, each song here has a unique style and feel. From the the dreamy vocal ululations of "Follow That Dream", through the acoustic sounding "Guitar Conversations", and on to the borderline electronica of "Follow Me" each song stands on it's own as both listenable and distinct from the others.

This is the albums strength and it's weakness. If you are looking for a mellow album to listen to as music, this is perfect for you. However as pure chillout or lounge background music this album will call attention to itself due to the changes in intensity and style. For example the passion of "I Am Back" demands your attention.

Personally I love this album and can listen to it over and over due to the variety contained within.

Above & Beyond - Tri-State
Above and Beyond's first album
By: Leon
Date: 26 Oct 2011
Rating:

Released as the first "Album" from this group it is obvious from the first notes that this is a group in their prime, not someone trying to find their way musicly.

Prior to this they had remixed to many songs to mention and are the brains behind the Anjunabeats label. Which starting in 2003 had been releasing compilation albums that stand on their own merit.

But really this is just gilding the lilly, this album needs little introduction beyond this, to listen to this album all the way through is to love it. It is smooth and soothing, yet never dull, rising and falling in intensity it defines good trance music.

United Destination 2011 - WOW!!
By: Max
Date: 14 Sep 2011
Rating:

Dash Berlin has repeatedly been called ‘the fastest rising artist in Trance’ and deservedly so according to his ever-growing global fan base and the acclaimed IDMA’s who recently nominated the ‘Flying Dutchman’ as ‘Best European DJ’ among some of the biggest names in dance music. After the international success of his first official mix compilation Dash decided to institutionalize his ‘United Destination’ brand as an annual concept.

And the all-new ‘United Destination 2011’ certainly makes a convincing case for Dash Berlin, not only as a successful dance artist, but also as a truly skilled DJ, that keeps delivering beyond the hype that surrounds his energetic persona.

Some of the previously unreleased standouts include the man’s own banging 4AM rework of his classic ‘Till The Sky Falls Down’, the emotionally charged ‘Earth Hour’ theme and the massive, stutter-edit-filled 4AM mix of his current single with Emma Hewitt entitled ‘Disarm Yourself’.

Berlin’s transitions are energetic like his performances and let his DJ personality shine through as a real perfectionist whose main goal seems to be to keep us dancing until the next record falls deep into its epic breakdown. Dash Berlin takes the term ‘escapism’ to new and undiscovered levels with a superb selection of tracks, which makes ‘United Destination 2011’ an exciting collection of all the good things today’s Trance scene has to offer.

Another fantastic CD full of terrific tracks!

Dash Berlin has always set the bar high. The Dutch DJ and producer climbed to the top at high speed, hitting full throttle with successful singles, debut album 'The New Daylight', the kick-off of the Aropa label, collecting air miles on his many travels to gigs all across the globe and, last but not least, mixing and releasing his first compilation, 'United Destination 2010'. Dash Berlin needed no more than 4 years to enter the DJ Mag Top 100 at number 15, as highest new entry of 2010.
After singles 'Till The Sky Falls Down', 'Never Cry Again' and 'Man On The Run', it was Emma Hewitt collab 'Waiting' that won the International Dance Music Award for 'Best Hi-NRG/Euro Track'. Its official follow-up, 'Disarm Yourself', has just been released as the first single from the forthcoming second Dash Berlin album, currently in the final stages of producing.

To ease the wait and keep you going in the right direction when it comes to the sound of 2011, Dash Berlin presents 'United Destination 2011'. A compilation dedicated to the nocturnal society, connected by sound and uniting
to share their one passion: music. A ride into the Dash Berlin sound, taking you to the highlights of today and tomorrow.
Exclusive and brand new tracks, fresh remixes and a diverse sound that's filled with energy, emotion and power. Hop on for a journey to one and the same destination: 'United Destination 2011'.

David Guetta - Fair (Barely)
By: Max
Date: 27 Jul 2011
Rating:

I stream different music when I hear "Black Eyed Peas" playing.

David Guetta is more POP music than House.

Yes, this CD is a "Party" CD.

Sorry, for the rating, but I gave this a 3.0 only because I know some of the members enjoy the music.

Thievery Corporation - Outernational Sound, The
The best ever by Thievery?
By: mrfish
Date: 18 Jul 2011
Rating:

The outernational sound is an exceptionally well produced album by the duo. The genres represented on the album are diverse, and the overall ordering of the album makes it worth purchasing just to listen from cover-to-cover. Great for listening at cocktail parties, or just lazing around the house.

Stereolab - Dots And Loops
Another great album from Stereolab
By: mrfish
Date: 18 Jul 2011
Rating:

I've had this album for quite some time as well. It has a number of songs from other albums by the band, but also new material. Stereolab has "quirky" music, but is is great ambient sound to relax to. Singer Leticia Sidler has a haunting voice that is GREAT to listen to.

Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup
Setting the Stereolab Standard
By: mrfish
Date: 18 Jul 2011
Rating:

I've owned this CD for over a decade, and I was THRILLED when I saw it added to the Library. Emperor Tomato Ketchup has all of the catchy, quirky groove that has made Stereolab popular all over the world. I hope you enjoy this CD as much as I do!

Henry Mancini, Peggy Lee, Titan (...) - Pink Panther's Penthouse Party
Pink Panther's Penthouse Party
By: mrfish
Date: 9 Apr 2011
Rating:

A superb party lounge album!

Track 6: "The Girl from Ipanema" by Pizzicato 5 -- I have been a long-time fan of P5 (I have 7 of their albums), and they bring fun Japanese pop edginess to the album.

Track 7: "Weapon of Choice" by Fatboy Slim -- An EFM favorite...very upbeat and again fun to listen to. Generally played as quickly as it becomes available to request.

Tracks 1, 2, 12, and 18: Various "Pink Panther" remakes, including the original by the incomparable Mr. Mancini.

This album is well worth the listen, and stands out as unique on the station's playlist.
