Chicane - Giants
Paul Young and Gary Numan (1980s)
By: Max
Date: 14 Mar 2011
Rating:

Track 3, Come Back - Has some really cool rifts of the late Paul Young's track "Come Back and Stay".

Track 10, Hiding all the Stars - Has some really cool rifts of Gary Numan's "Here in My Car".

Both are 80's classics!

The whole CD is put together really well. I haven't heard a track I don't like. The tracks I mentioned above are by far my favorites on the CD however, Track 11, "What Am I Doing Here? Pt. 2" also brings out Chicane's unique sound.

I really have enjoyed the CD. Quite the surprise for a house genre.

Enjoy - Max

A&B: Anjunabeats Volume 8
By: Max
Date: 25 Feb 2011
Rating:

I think many would agree with me when I say that Above and Beyond are one of the most talented, but underrated, DJs on the trance scene today. While they might not be as flashy as Armin van Buuren, their mixing skills tend to surpass that of many top DJs, and their live sets promise hours of uplifting and melodic trance with lots of substance. With the success of their Oceanlab side project and the release of "Thing Called Love" from their future second artist album, Above and Beyond have gained massive airplay and recognition over the past two years. So it’s only fitting that they release the eighth volume of their annual flagship compilation Anjunabeats series which has been setting the standard for uplifting melodic trance and progressive music for the past few years.
Anjunabeats Volume 8 marks a return to the classic vibes we have come to associate with the Anjunabeats label and from Above & Beyond. As you may have expected, the eighth edition of the Anjunabeats series is another stellar two-disc set full of progressive trance tracks with melodic harmonies and pumping beats and one powerful song after another. The first disc, as with previous Anjunabeats compilations, is a more progressive affair and the better of the two sets because the beats are less calculated and less predictable; the tracks are practically avant-garde compared to the tracks used on the second set.

Track by track:

"Alquimia" from Parker & Hanson serves as the opening track with dreamy synths being played out before succumbing to a heavy bassline which gets the album started on the right note. From here it's a typically melodic, bouncy affair with some delightful and uplifting numbers from Duderstadt, Oliver Smith, Thomas Datt, Super8 & Tab, and a welcomed return from Maor Levi. Vocals from the likes of Aruna and Ashley Tomberlin are also laced throughout the set, serving to compliment the melodies and bring the tracks to life.
Another memorable track is the Gareth Emery and Metropolis remix of the classic Oceanlab tune "On a Good Day." It is also great to see Daniel Kandi back in action on this compilation, with two of his tracks being showcased, and “Piece of Me” is particularly dance worthy- ending the first disc perfectly.

Moving on to Disc Two:

The second disc keeps the energy going and a glance at the artists on the track listing should already give you an indication of what to expect. Right from beginning, tracks from Anjunabeat heavyweights like Adam Nickey, Daniel Kandi, Super8 & Tab, and Nitrous Oxide ensure the second set keeps the uplifting vibe going throughout. There are several defining tracks on the second disc, with a particular highlight being the dreamy "We Are" from Who.Is which transcends into "Thing Called Love" by Above & Beyond (with stunning vocals from Richard Bedford which bear an uncanny resemblance to "Alone Tonight"). Daniel Kandi and Adam Nickey also serve up great tracks with Anjuna-style melodies and the always-outstanding Super 8 and Tab do not disappoint either. Other tracks by Andrew Bayer are also truly exciting and demand a listen, and the Mat Zo Dub mix of Lange and Emma Hewitt's “Live Forever” is also not to be missed. At the end we find the delightful mash-up "Sky Falls Away," leaving the compilation series on a euphoric high, keeping you longing for more.

Summery:

In conclusion, Anjunabeats and Above & Beyond have indeed delivered another fantastic compilation album full of amazing trance and progressive tracks which any seasoned or casual trance fan will love. When it comes to the Anjunabeats series, you always know exactly what you're getting with each volume, but this doesn't mean that there isn't variation within each album. As usual, the latest version of Anjunabeats delivers the best quality trance around with all the tracks impeccably sewn together to form an epic listening experience. If you are even remotely interested in electronic dance music or trance in general, then make sure and get this newest release from Anjunabeats and Above & Beyond because it deserves a spot in your musical collection.

United Destination - BOOM!!

From: "Tranceinline News"

As the lights fade and the volume rises, the dance scene awakes. They gather in big groups to share their belief, no matter what nationality or ethnicity. They’re all here for the same reason.

Music is the unifying factor, an unspoken language common to all. Dash Berlin welcomes you to the nocturnal society. Dash Berlin:”We are all connected by sound. The place where we celebrate tonight, is our United Destination.”

The Dash Berlin sound has reached deep into the heart of the dance scene and far across the EDM places of this world. It all started three years ago, when first single ‘Till The Sky Falls Down’ turned the heads and popped the ears. Today, front man Jeffrey Suttorius is the proud owner of Aropa Records and looks back to a slew of chart-scorching releases, such as ‘Man On The Run’ and ‘Waiting’. Both tracks are nominated for this year’s International Dance Music Awards and can be found on the Dash Berlin debut artist album ‘The New Daylight’. Following in 2010, we find the first Dash Berlin mix-compilation, ‘United Destination’.

Dash Berlin mixed and compiled ‘United Destination’ with the thought in mind that every single member of the dance society shares one particular passion. It’s that feeling of togetherness, of being one, that shaped this album. Driven by the sound, we all go to the one place where it’s all about the music: the United Destination. With the true Dash Berlin sound as their guide, listeners will be taken in at the very moment they press play. Exclusive tracks, new remixes and a diverse sound will take them on a journey to one and the same destination: ‘United Destination’.

Just not a very good up-tempo beat. More "art" than music.
