Amsterdam 08 follows in the footsteps of Miami 05 and Ibiza 06, and Markus Schulz couldn't be happier about its origins - Amsterdam is his spiritual home thanks to the overwhelming passion of the people resident there. "I always choose cities that are dear to me for my annual mix compilation" says Markus. "I just love Amsterdam, I feel a real connection there - my friends there are like my family. The people of Holland were one of the first to embrace and accept me and my sound, so it was the natural choice to do the 08 mix there."
Markus' brand of dark, melodic trance is in demand the world over; his weekly Global DJ Broadcast radio show is now syndicated to over 30 stations worldwide, his shows have taken in everywhere from Australia to Russia, China to Trinidad, and many other destinations along the way, and 2008 is set to bring more dates in Australia, as well as Asia and South America. Amsterdam 08 is a must-have album for dance fans everywhere, and comprises Markus' top tracks from 2007 and hot tips for 2008.
"I really enjoy putting the compilation CDs together," says Markus, "they're always a total labour of love and are in my mind all the time. All year I'll hold back tracks that are just gems for the mix; I'll play them out here and there over the summer but I'll save them for the CD. Amsterdam 08 opens a little differently - CD1 starts quite slow by trance standards: 124 bpm, so it sets the mood, similar to when I'm playing extended sets. The atmosphere builds up so that when you get to CD2 it's full on, middle-of-a-set tempo trance."
Stand out tracks include 2 Glenn Morrison cuts, (I" love what he's doing," says Markus, "he's on fire right now!"), the Moonbeam remix of new Lens track, Beyond The Shadows, ("an amazing discovery for me"), and Avalon by Enmass, as well as the Coldharbour remix of Markus Schulz feat Andy Moor's Daydream - a stunning slice of melodic trance with truly divine vocals.
Markus, who also runs his own Coldharbour label, is often in Amsterdam for club dates and regularly plays for Armada Music's events and festivals. "I really feel part of this city, it's so special for me" he says. "This CD is a thank you to everyone there who has supported me over the years, and I hope it becomes a special selection of tunes to everyone who hears it."

Ibiza. There is nowhere else like it in the world and every summer it becomes our second home, by hosting our weekly parties at Amnesia. Clubbers from all corners of the earth fly in to see their favorite DJs drop mind blowing mixes and unleash new and classic tracks one after the other, creating severe dance floor delirium! Capturing that spirit and putting it down in a mix is no easy task, but we have a very special weapon up our sleeve in the shape of Markus Schulz! Selected for his prowess behind the decks as well as his finesse in musical taste, this titan of Electronic Dance Music deliver up a slice of Armada's Ibiza experiencethat will have you booking your tickets before you've finished listening! So sit back, close your eyes, feel the sunshine and letthat very special electric atmosphere soak in as Markus Schulz takes you to a place where you'll want to visit again, and again, and again. Armada at Ibiza - enjoy!
Playing an incredible 12 out of the 14 Armada parties in Ibiza, it was only right that Markus Schulz put together this mix CD. From the moment he drops his first track on this album, the beautifully euphoric Back For More by Mr. Pit, he sums up his entire philosophy about the island - "I have been here once before, I still come back for more". Martin Roth and Paris Nova's remix of DJ Eco's Song Of Innocence begins to lift the mix up and up, it's techy undertones bringing energy and drive, melding through into the progressive sounds of Canyon Boulevard's Kimchi and Markus' song of the year so far, Arnej's They Always Come Back. Sphaera's Back flows into the ripper track Guanacaste by Element One, building towards the sensational bassline of Duderstadt's remix of the second Mr. Pit track on the album, Shana. Christine Soto's vocals on Walk With Me blow the mix apart, ramping it up for one of the biggest tunes this year, Phoria (Elevation remix). A massive track that is prime main room material, this is Armada at Ibiza on a plate. Working towards a spine-tingling crescendo of a finale, Markus chooses Cramp's Deadline and Mike Koglin's awe-inspiring remix of Sequentia presents Sunshade's Vertigo to round things off.
Sensational from start to finish, Ibiza in every aspect, Armada through and through, definitive Markus Schulz... this is the cd that will bring you inthe Ibiza mood this summer!

After a long, hot summer rocking the White Isle with his Global DJ Broadcast international radio show and gigs at the likes of Amnesia, Markus Schulz presents an aural snapshot of the season in this double CD, Ibiza 06.
Essential listening for anyone who partied in the world's favourite playground, and for those who wish they were there, it's a summery slice of Balearic action in keeping with the prog-trance vibe that's been permeating the island.
"It's my interpretation of this summer's progressive trance, what's done it on the island for me" says Markus. "The feeling that I get when I hear these tunes is indescribable! I love to play Amnesia, in fact it's one of my favourite clubs in the whole world - the experience when you're in that DJ booth, with that crowd there's nothing else like it."
From the opening chords of track one, Ohmna's People Get Lost - a deep Balearic guitar track - the mix weaves in and out through the sort of tunes you'd expect from the head of the Coldharbour imprint. Since setting the label up through Armada, Markus has spotted and championed a number of new talents, many of whom have gone on to enjoy global success themselves. Among them are Benya, whose first track was picked up by Markus, and latest offering, Mimas, features here. Andy Moor's also present with his Orkidea collaboration, YearZero, as are LA's Ambrosial.
What I want to do is champion the next generation of producers the guys that make these tracks are young kids who are just coming up, and are the most immensely talented people I've met. They've grown up on computers, using them to make music, and some of the stuff they're producing is incredible" says Markus.
When the sun sets on the madness of another Ibiza season, Markus will be back in the studio working on his second artist album, but knows that whenever he wants to be transported back he can just crank up Ibiza 06.
"These tunes will always make me think of this summer, and how I can't wait to be flying into Ibiza again - seeing the white beaches and the blue sea from the plane and knowing what comes next is going to be amazing."

This is a compilation CD of Kyau & Albert's greatest tracks and I mean really great stuff. The band was recently awarded for Best HiNRG/Euro Track "Hide and Seek" at the 24th International Dance Music Awards in Miami!
All of the duo’s production and song-writing techniques are present and correct with Albert sounding as fey as ever, which makes sense given this is where most of the big singles are lodged. Walk Down, Are You Fine and instrumental Kiksu are vintage, with Are You Fine probably being the cream of the crop.
They are a relatively new on the Vocal and Trance scene but their efforts so far are very pleasant - I dig them! I had the chance to listen to this CD twice on one long road trip and I never turned the volume down the whole time!
Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Lustral - Lustral Presents Trance Classics

The roots of Vocal Trance? |

"Ask any trance expert for a couple of names that have built the foundations of trance music and Lustral will surely be one of them. Lustral, consisting of Ricky Simmonds and Stephen Jones, have been enhancing the trance scene with several beauties of productions under guises such as Lustral, Chakra, The Space Brothers, Oxygen, The Realm and Ascension. Over the last decade they’ve released over 50 records, have had 13 top 40 hits in the UK and were featured on compilations that have sold in amounts of no less than 14 million units worldwide. But besides the recording work, Simmonds & Jones have also been involved with various other projects, that include remixes, collaborations, film and television work. These musical geniuses are one of the most successful dance music duo’s to come out of the UK."
"After many years, their tracks are still being remixed, remade and spun in clubs and parties by numerous DJ’s and producers. Lustral are now ready to take another look to the past and combine their rich catalogue with a new set of blissed out mixes. ‘Lustral presents Trance Classics’ is a collection of original versions of their classic tracks on the first CD and chilled, ambient versions of the album on the second CD entitled ‘Interpretations’. Listen and find out what true classics sound like."
Enjoy!

Almost perfect |

I am a sucker for the ethereal female vocal. This album is a great example of melodic trance that makes up a good portion of my favorites here on EFM. I hesitate to give anything a "5" rating but this one comes very close.

Remixing music from their Tri-State release, Above and Beyond go over the top with The 2008 Remix Edition. Vocal Trance and House combined to a new level with big label artists ATB, Gabriel & Dresden to name a few.
"Good for Me" (Club Mix) is a solid stellar groove, the lyrics are hypnotic and the beat blended perfectly. All of the tracks will be played for quite sometime in all the hottest clubs world wide.
Their latest release Anjunadeep:01 was nominated for Best Record Label at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards 2008. These guys are simply serious when it comes to making music, their success has been recognized and Above & Beyond have been nominated for 8 IDMA Awards at this year's 2009 Miami Winter Music Conference. Jono, Tony and Paavo are shortlisted for Best European DJ, Best Global DJ, Best Producer and Best Artist (Group).
I can't get enough of their music, always fresh, always new, and always excellent!
Enjoy - Max

Above and Beyond - Anjunadeep:01 |

"Above & Beyond showcase the newest addition to their electronic music family with Anjunadeep:01. This new mix series highlights tracks and artists from their sub label of the same name, the deep and progressive house branch to their more ubiquitous Anjunabeats brand. As with their long-running Anjunabeats mix series, this one is elevated from the trappings of being just a label sampler by two important points."
"The first is that even though it's still in a growing phase, Anjunadeep as a label already sports a solid roster of producers with some very promising and compelling tracks. Rising newcomers 16 Bit Lolitas and Jaytech are featured prominently on this two-disc set, but there are more gems to mine in the list of less recognizable artists."
"The second reason that we should feel a bit more safe is that Above & Beyond are just a solid DJ crew. Not only are their mix series top notch, but their weekly radio series has been a testing ground for both labels, showcasing many of the tracks presented here. These have already been field-tested and bear further listening."
"Primarily champions of high-energy and melodic trance music, Above & Beyond still manage to work in a variety of other comparable genres on their show, and Anjunadeep is a good example of that brand extension. The tracks have a more progressive edge, but they're not without their more melodic trance roots."
"This is an excellent mix of club-worthy music that should find an enthusiastically receptive audience with most patrons of club music - be it trance, house, progressive or eclectic."

Ronski Speed - Pure Devotion |

"..‘Pure Devotion’ is possibly one of the most eagerly anticipated albums in trance music for 2008. With the reams of tracks under his name, what would make the album? What new sounds could we expect from Ronny? How would such an expert remixer approach a full artist album? I can tell you now that the result exceeded even my high expectations. I have listened continuously for several days now and there is not one track that is yet to tire. The sheer aural diversity is superb; with a range from downtempo ambient chill right through to progressive tech trance mayhem..."
"A blissful introduction with the album title track ‘Pure Devotion’ providing a chilled out mix of strings intertwined with a graceful female vocal. Warmth and depth that engulf you from the beginning, a few piano keys drift you along gently, welcoming you to the album like the first rays of sun at the start of a new day."
"..impeccably produced piece of music."
Enjoy - Max
