- Trance.nu Review
"As you would expect from Markus Schulz, this is a high-class, high quality affair from start to finish. CD1 builds superbly from subdued beginnings to a big climax with plenty of arms-in-the-air moments along the way. The well-placed, strong vocals add character to what is a well-balanced, bright, upbeat and uplifting mix. CD2 is much darker in tone and more dancefloor focused, a bit stop/start with some less than dynamic mixing up to the wonderful Power Of American Natives remix – after that it doesn’t look back and finishes strongly. This is highly intelligent, multi-layered dance music that doesn’t always grab the attention straight away yet reveals more with each listen. Markus’ intense enthusiasm for dance music shines through with his own productions and Coldharbour reworks meticulously selected to enhance the mix. If you are a keen follower of his GDJB show, you need little incentive to get this. If you are a Schulz doubter, give this a go, you could be pleasantly surprised."
- Threeworld.com Review
"Global Broadcast DJ and world number eight, Markus Schulz, is back in 2009 with his latest take on one of the world’s hottest, well, hotspots: Toronto. Known as Canada’s economic capital and most global city, Toronto has a cosmopolitan glow about it. Schulz oozes enthusiasm for this city, delivering a double-CD compilation of progressive trance with smooth melodic moments and deep, darker explorations, reminiscent of his sets at Toronto’s most famous club, The Guvernment. The carefully chosen track selection is characteristic of the Schulz sound, featuring several unreleased and fresh tunes by some little-known and well-known talents. Think names like Rex Mundi, Tenishia, Ominia, Umek, Mike Foyle, Project MC (AKA M.I.K.E) plus Schulz’ own alias, Dakota. Disc two is standout for me: its driving progressive trance really peaks with Dance 2 Trance’s Power of American Natives remix and doesn’t look back. Considering how amazing Amsterdam ‘08 was, expectations were extremely high for this compilation, and unfortunately at points, Schulz loses me in ambient, floaty trance and odd sounds, but regains interest with hypnotic, multi-layered basslines. Thank goodness for that."
Enjoy the music EFM - The entire CD flows fantastically. CD2 is very much cutting edge with progressive mixes that will leave you spell bound.

OMG - This is good!! |

If you like hi-energy, big beats, and just good trance and house, then this CD is what you are looking for. It's got it all.
I just wish Saff would just add all the tracks to the listening library. Tracks 7 thru 10 are absolutely smoking!! I always crank these tracks in my truck when listening to the CD.
He has truely elevated himself into the Masters of Trance with this compilation.
Released in 2008, this CD sounds as fresh as ever.
Enjoy - Max

Gabriel and Dresden BBC Review |
|
BBC Review
The seeds that the San Francisco-based production duo sowed several years ago are now starting to flourish, as listeners to this solidly constructed eponymous debut, will attest.
Built upon a foundation of contemporary studio gadgets, trusty Moog and Roland synths and a brace of vocalists, Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden have, in the main, created a high-octane opus of electronica. A blend of vintage guitars, electric bass and tech-etched beats drives the majority of the project with "Sydney", a throbbing instrumental, and the ethereal Molly Bancroft-sung "Tracking Treasure Down", two of the best.
Owing much to the styling of Sarah McLachlan, Atlanta-based Bancroft appears on a quartet of tracks, including the first single, "Tracking Treasure Down". As does Londoner Jan Burton best known for his work with Syntax a few years back whose nonchalant delivery sounds more at one with the production, not least on tracks like "Enemy" and "Dangerous Power" which has a distinct David Sylvian twang to it.
With a number of high profile awards already to their name, and having just remixed the Oscar winning theme song from Brokeback Mountain, G&D could soon find themselves the haut couture of club culture.

Gabriel & Dresden mixes are used and remixed throughout the Trance community. Very precise and very good. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I do.

After playing a record breaking gig to one million people in Rio, selling out London’s Ministry of Sound, travelling across America in a bus, numerous worldwide club and festival appearances and producing an album under their OceanLab alias, you’d think Above & Beyond would want to take a break.
But instead the unstoppable trance trio have been busy compiling the sixth edition of their hugely successful ‘Anjunabeats’ compilation series.
‘Anjunabeats Volume 6’ showcases the best of the year’s releases on their own Anjunabeats record label across two CDs.
Compared to the second disc, CD 1 has a deeper, more progressive feel, featuring releases from the Anjunadeep sub-label. Highlights include Jaytech’s ‘Pyramid’, Andy Moor’s ‘Fake Awake’ and Oliver Smith’s ‘Horizons’.
With CD2 Above & Beyond have managed to compile a playlist of the most significant trance releases currently around, including tracks such as The Thrillseekers feat. Fisher ‘The Last Time’, their own remix of their OceanLab record ‘Breaking Ties’ and the tune that’s appeared on every must-have trance compilation released in the last three months ‘Elektra’.
It's a fantastic CD with something for everyone!

Enigma - Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!
|
masterpiece |
|
This Album is known as the best and most popular Enigma album to date. Michael Cretu wrote this album while his ex-wife Sandra was pregnant of his twins Nikita and Sebastian.
Cretu said about this album "its the most intiem albums i ever wrote" .
Songs like "The Child in Us" and "Why!" are highlights of this album. With the raw but very emotional and touching singing of the grandmaster himself.
Cretu 's favorite track alltime is on this album too "Morphing thru time". Sadly it became a turning point for Enigma , cos after this album Cretu changed styles and lost alot of fans.
The title and artwork of the album are worth to mention too. The Cover lay in was original of transparant foley in 4 layers. Every layer was a part of a puzzle and once folded it shows the beautiful Image of the Robot men. Le Roi est Mort, Vive le Roi is an historical phrase meaning "the king is dead , long live the king"

Article / Review from www.trance.nu
Above & Beyond began 2008 playing to 1 million people on New Year’s Eve in Rio (thought to be the largest live DJ gig ever) - an auspicious start and another milestone in their fast-rising journey to becoming “one of Britain’s biggest dance outfits” (The Sun).
‘Anjunabeats Volume 6’ is the next installment in their highly successful label compilation series and features the pick of the label’s artists across Anjunabeats and housier offshoot Anjunadeep. Including numerous exclusives, as well as their own productions and remixes, Above & Beyond’s mix illustrates once again why both labels are magnets for electronic dance music connoisseurs.
Currently ranked No.4 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs Poll, Above & Beyond were recently voted 11th in Mixmag’s list of the best dance acts of the past 25 years. Their weekly radio show is a regular fixture in the iTunes music podcast Top 10, mirroring the success of their recent OceanLab album, ‘Sirens Of The Sea’, which was a Top 10 seller in both the UK and US iTunes sales charts.
However, statistics tell only a fraction of the story. Their rise to global attention is seen through the eyes of tens of thousands of music fans worldwide each weekend. Now captured on their Youtube channel, Tony, Paavo, and Jono’s exploits have taken them to all four corners of the earth. Highpoints in recent months include selling-out London’s Ministry Of Sound, a monumental show in Beirut, a trail-blazing visit to Bolivia, and a bus tour across the USA, which included a performance at the Coachella festival.
CD1 of ‘Anjunabeats Volume 6’ showcases the Anjunadeep sound, the deeper, atmospheric-end of the Anjuna spectrum that’s attracted champions such as Sasha, James Zabiela, and Desyn Masiello. Highlights include tracks from Jaytech, Komytea (aka Michael Cassette), Joonas Hahmo, Paul Keeley (‘ASOH’ as featured in Zabiela’s Glastonbury Essential Mix), Joonas Hahmo (‘Cocktail Bar’), Andy Moor (‘Fake Awake’), and more. CD2 features the classy melodic trance sound that Anjunabeats is best known for, and includes Oceanlab (‘Breaking Ties’ - A&B Club Mix), the eagerly awaited club rework of one of the OceanLab album's standout tunes, Super 8 & Tab (‘Elektra’), Bart Claessen & Dave Schiemann’s Madness’ (I Prefer This Mix), and others.

Enigma - Return To Innocence EP
|
enigmatic |
|
After the success of previous singles: Sadeness and Mea Culpa in 1990. Michael Cretu came back even stronger with Return To Innocence. The song hit the charts in more then 28 countries and became a well known song used in movies and advertisments. But behind this succes there was a dirty side too.
Michael Cretu bought the vocal from France Cultural Department for 6000 dollars and this seemed legal.
But it the far Taiwan a man heard this song and recognised his good friends Kuon Yin-nan (also called Difang)
an his wife Kuo Hsin-Chu, both elders in the Amy Tribe.
He went to his friends and the tribe started a lawsuite against Virgin and Cretu. It was settled out of court for an unknown sum (many talk about a million dollar)

Boozoo Bajou - Grains

After 10 years of forward-thinking musical fusion, Boozoo Bajou return with their most seductive and sophisticated album yet, Grains.
The producers Florian Seyberth and Peter Heider are already widely respected around the globe for their unique blend of modern electronica with blues, jazz, soul, latin and dub elements. But on Grains, the Nuremberg duo take a lighter and brighter path, absorbing acoustic folk and classic songwriting into their progressive musical journey.
Boozoo Bajou earned global attention with their irresistible breakthrough single Night Over Manaus in 1998, their 2001 debut album Satta and its 2005 sequel Dust My Broom. They also demonstrated their excellent and wide-ranging musical taste on two excellent mix compilations, Juke Joint and Juke Joint II.
In addition, Florian and Peter have remixed and collaborated with a wide range of major artists. These include hip-hop superstar Common, Joe Dukie from New Zealand dub-rock collective Fat Freddys Drop, rapper Oh No from the Stones Throw camp, former Motown writer-producer and blaxploitation soundtrack legend Willie Hutch, and the veteran Louisiana singer-songwriter Tony Joe White, author of the all-time classic Rainy Night In Georgia.
Yet Grains marks a dazzling new chapter in Boozoo Bajous career. This is the duos most organic album so far, making beautiful new sounds by blending modern studio electronics with live instruments and guest vocals. An album of underground and experimental sounds, but based on strong melodies and emotionally charged vocals.
Inspired by the resurgence in acoustic singer-songwriters, and a visit to the contemporary folk festival Green Man, obsessive record collectors Florian and Peter made Grains after falling in love with the Laurel Canyon generation of early 1970s LA. This was a time of unplugged introspection for rock superstars like Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne.
As on their previous albums, Boozoo Bajou have made something fresh and modern from their old-school inspirations, weaving them into their 21st century studio soundscapes. We didnt try to make an authentic West Coast album, its just that laidback California thing was in the back of our minds, Florian explains. It coloured the whole thing.
Several guests sing on Grains. But Boozoo Bajous most exciting new discovery is their first ever female vocalist, the young British singer-songwriter Rumer, whose voice was described by BBC London as coming straight out of Laurel Canyon.
Rumer provides the vocals on Same Sun, an addictive fusion of acoustic melancholy with shiny modern production. She also sings on Messengers, a sublime mix of jazz, electronics and singer-songwriter folk. Imagine a generation-spanning voice which blends the fragile beauty of Karen Carpenter, the warm glow of Sade and the spooky magic of Goldfrapp.
Grains is another lovely acid-folk ballad with a broad cinematic sweep. With this track especially, we had the West Coast feel, says Florian. I really get a feeling of oceans when I hear this, a wide Pacific Ocean.
Boozoo Bajou chose the same name for their album title because Grains seemed to best describe their wide range of ingredients and inspirations. There are a lot of different small influences on us and our music, all under one roof, Florian says. My main background is punk rock and rockabilly, from when I was a kid. Peter is totally the opposite. He really studied classical music and jazz, and his father is a modern composer. The sound we create is what happens when these two come together.
Fans of previous Boozoo Bajou albums will appreciate the rich mix of contemporary and vintage sounds scattered across the album. On the luminous late-night torch song Flickers and the bittersweet soul ballad Sign, the ghost of Curtis Mayfield meets Florians love of early Style Council. Meanwhile, somewhere between the spaghetti western twangs of Kinder Ohne Strom and the trippy sunshine ripples of Fuersattel, Ennio Morricone shares a Studio One jam with King Tubby. Then there is closing track Big Nicks, a gentle Blue Note jazzy stroll through uptown Manhattan, where the 24-hour diner of the title is located.
Both inside and out, Grains is an intoxicating mix of past, present and future. A folk songbook for the 21st century. A soulful statement for today. Boozoo Bajou have made their finest album to date.
