Why won't my custom ringtones work?

HI,

I created a handful of ringtones in iTunes for my friends and family. I've got them on my iPhone 3GS just fine and assigned them to individual contacts, but whenever my phone rings, the default ringtone plays. Does anyone have an idea of why this is happening or what I'm not doing right?

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
