I suspect that most people listen to EFM and even SST while at work. Its kind of annoying right now that the 'Now Playing' window lags behind so much in listing what is actually playing. I usually don't have the time to keep checking the song title if I am curious about a new song that has just come on. I could understand a few seconds out of sync, but sometimes it seems to be a really long time, and its just a real pain. Also, it seems like once a new song has started playing it doesn't show up in either the 'requested queue' or the 'recently played' queue, so in that case, I have to wait to see it in the 'now playing' window. It interrupts my work a lot and I suspect that is the same with others. Can you please reduce the lag time for this?

32 Kbit streams are more than 30 seconds delayed, I guess because SAM has more work with bigger compression. 64K are OK.
The second problem is slightly asynch between different modules. IMO the system is programmed very well.
Maybe I'm wrong - Observed from SST  |

The lag depends upon a lot of things... It can for instance be an oversized buffer in your media player.
Increasing the buffer size will help your player to overcome slow connections, but the direct consequence is that the lag will increase.
Typically, a 'normal' 64 KB buffer will store 8 seconds of music at 64 Kbs (8 KBs) but 16 seconds of music at 32 Kbs. What you actually hear has been downloaded 8 or 16 seconds before.
See? a 128 KB buffer will give you a lag of 32 seconds for a 32 Kbs stream. |
