Rank by Genre?

Hi there

I was wondering if there is any way that a Top 10 (or 25? 50?) of songs by genre could be created. I saw an earlier forum under the "Ideas" thread somebody asked about why certain genres play at certain times, etc. While I agree with Max the "randomness" of those songs selected make this station unique, a person who wanted to hear songs of a specific genre could look at the list of their preferred genre (World, Trance, Chillout, ...) and play/vote for songs from that list.

I think this would add some more incentive to vote on songs as well in order to bring them up/down on the Top 10/25/50 list.

I also noticed the genre can be searched when you go to http://entranced.fm/modules.php?name=Requests&postartistsearch=true&artist=. So, it should notbe a problem to cross-check the genre and the curent rank and/or rating.

Excellant addition to the general "best" and "Most Played" lists we have now. There is such an overwhelming amount of music here that it would be helpfull to filter it in some manner.

Genre would be easiest since the field already exists. Though BPM might be a better gauge considering the overlap of genre's that we have.

One last thought...we would need to be certain that the genres listed for tracks/albums really do match up. For example, some items listed as "chillout" are anything but. "Electronic" can mean a whole host of things, and indeed it does when you listen to tracks selected after a search by genre. It would take a bit of work, but I think it would improve the overall listener experience.

I agree that a search feature like this would be good to have. I'm not entirely sure how it could be implemented across the stations. Typically, when new features are added, they are done for the entire 24Seven group of stations. Entranced.FM is unique because of the wide genre of music we have so we could possibly be the only station with this search feature. But as mention before, a search feature like this would be very handy and I will vote for a "yes".

I'm going to bump this to the admins on the 24Seven site for them to comment on.

A good idea. The one drawback are albums with more than one genre. Sometimes an album where all tracks have a similar musical style are still considered multi-genre. Other times, it's a compilation album that mixes genres with tracks of various styles. Plus, we have a few compilation albums that do have tracks with a genre mix, yet there is only one genre on the album, which is not a good reflection of all the music it contains.

Voted yes. But sometimes it's good to hear songs other than the top picks for a certain genre. I have a feeling these songs will be played more than others though, which may be a drawback.

The biggest problem goes back to the inconsistent Genre definition. This has been discussed on other forums, even in the Administrators forum (I've been told) This in itself is a huge project to clean up.
